Report of
celebrated
international youth day 2006 in Nepal

On August 12,
International Youth Day was celebrated with excitement and
enthusiasm among the youths of Kathamandu. Different youth
organizations working with the youths in collaboration with the
department of Education and Sports of Nepal Government took out a
Peace rally. The rally began when the minister of Education and
Sports Dr. Mangal Siddhi Manandhar inaugurated the program by
cutting the ribbon at 8:00 am.

    
The
rally went to different parts of Kathmandu and ended in the Scout
Hall. While addressing the
crowd, minister of Education and Sports Dr. Mangal Siddhi Manandhar
committed that Policy for the Youths would be made in the near
future and the Government of Nepal will work to empower the youths
of Nepal
and bring them to the level of decision making for the development
of the country.

Likewise youth
organization Sanjal’s President Rajendra Mulmi said the state has
neglected the youth and the youths should not be termed as the
future but be termed as the present. Student Political leader of
ANNFSU Ram kumari Jhakri said that although the youths have
participated and presented them for the development of the country,
but their participation has been neglected by the state. She adds
that in the field of politics, people who have crossed the age of 50
years are also called youth politicians. The government has not been
able to differentiate between youths and adults.
The
main slogan of this year youth day was
“Fight against
Poverty”. In this process the youths have said that the state, in
every level, area and in decision making has to involve
the youths. The state has to establish democratic republic, has to
make youth ministry, has to give unemployed allowance to the
unemployed youths and have to give technical education to the
youths. The youths demanding for the above demands stayed in the
Mandela in Maitighar till 4:00 pm. Different youth organizations
had organized concert to let the youths show their talents in
kathamndu.
Likewise, Idea
Action and Idea Forum had participated in the rally and showed unity
in the demands to be fulfilled. Idea Action, a youth organization is
working to develop a culture of peace, non violent and informative
society in Nepal. In the programme Idea Action’s president Shakti
S. Ghimire share the experience of youth engagement projects to
develop a long lasting peace. Furthermore, need and advantages of
national youth policy.
